The City of Darlington encourages residents to remain vigilant and pay attention to local media in advance of Hurricane Michael.

Mayor Gloria Hines says city staff have prepared and continue to monitor the situation.

“People need to be prepared because the storm is coming,” Mayor Hines says. “We are not trying to alarm them, but people need to be safe. Be cautious because with the high winds trees could fall, and may God bless Darlington.”

She added residents should stay off the roads unless necessary during the storm.

• There will be no garbage collection or yard debris collection on Thursday due to the potential high winds. Thursday’s route will be collected on Friday along with Friday’s regular route.
• Debris collection will be prioritized to clear roads and bridges before returning to regular routes based on damage assessments following the storm.
• The City of Darlington Police Department began checking on the elderly and shut-ins today in advance of Hurricane Michael.
• Crews are continually checking storm drains.
• Mosquito spraying will be done on Friday and Saturday night this week, weather permitting. The crews will continue to spray on every week night possible as they have been since Hurricane Florence.
• The City will coordinate with City of Hartsville and Darlington County on its office schedule. Details will be released by 5 o’clock this evening as to whether City offices will be open for business on Thursday.
