On October 9 at 9 a.m., the 3rd annual Panting for Paws 5K will take place beginning and ending at the Fitness World Gym on Pearl Street. There is also a virtual 5K if you cannot make it. This race benefits the Darlington County Human Society and their efforts to build a new shelter with indoor facilities for the homeless dog and cat populations in Darlington County. The City of Darlington Grab A Bag SC Litter Collection will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, November 13, beginning at the City Administration Building, 410 Pearl Street. Trash bags, grabbers, and safety vests will be provided. Water and light refreshments available for volunteers. Participants can sign up for Grab A Bag SC in their own community by visiting PalmettoPride's event page at www.palmettopride.org. After you've picked up your bag, challenge three friends to do the same. Just tag them on your favorite social media platform using #GrabABagSC. Additionally, that Saturday, staff will distribute tarps in an effort to combat litter from unsecured loads, some of the main sources of litter contributing to more than 20 percent of roadside debris. According to state law, no vehicle shall be driven on any public highway unless it is loaded or covered to prevent its load from dropping, escaping, or shifting.

Start Thanksgiving off right by building an appetite running the 30th Annual Hartsville Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning at 9 a.m. Nov. 25. This event is one of the largest Road Races in the area, drawing over 600 runners to this race every year. The race starts in front of the YMCA, 111 E. Carolina Ave., and runs through the historic areas of Hartsville returning to the Y. Proceeds for this event go to YMCA. So come out and continue or start your family tradition today. Darlington City Hall has reopened to the public at a limited capacity. Hours of operation remain 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  • Individuals may only enter through the front door of City Hall, 400 Pearl St.
  • Individuals must wear a mask.
  • Individuals must maintain social distancing of six (6) feet from others.
  • A maximum of three (3) people will be allowed in the reception area at any one time. Others must wait outside.
  • Restrooms will not be open to the public.
