Organized spring sports cancelled in Darlington County
It is with a heavy heart that I make this announcement that all Darlington County Parks Recreation & Tourism Spring Sports for 2020 have been cancelled.
We have taken a long hard look at the guidelines set forth by Governor McMaster, the CDC and DHEC. To bring our parents and children out into this environment and ensure them and our staff members safety is our biggest concern. We will err on the side of caution and do what we think is right and cancel the season. We are now planning some summer activities and our fall activities for 2020. I'm sure there will be guidelines that has to be followed and as we get information, we will try to pass it on to you.
Refunds will be processed as quickly as we possibly can, we will send out a Remind to let you know how to get us the information we need for processing your refund.
Ball fields will open on June 1, 2020. All fields under Darlington County Parks Recreation & Tourism will be open for individual workouts on a first come first serve basis. We ask that you practice social distancing always. Team practices will be scheduled through the recreation departments, any teams that use the facilities will be subject to ALL CDC, and DHEC guidelines. Teams that schedule practices will assume ALL liability concerning their teams and will produce lists of people present at every practice. Any team found practicing without permission will be subject to being trespassed from all facilities within the county. We will reconsider these stipulations as guidelines are relaxed.
Again, we are heartbroken that it has come to this, but the public's safety is our responsibility, I don't expect everyone to agree with our decision and that is ok. We will continue to err on the side of caution when it comes to the kids that we oversee. If you as a parent want to play ball with your child the fields will be open, we just ask that you do it safely and responsibly.
