COVID-19 Guidance for Businesses & Employers
DHEC is closely monitoring a rapidly emerging national outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and is continuing to investigate and respond to cases of the virus in South Carolina.
If you have fever, cough or shortness of breath, call your doctor or healthcare provider to discuss your concerns or get medical care. You can also use MUSC Health's virtual visit by using the promo code "COVID19."
For general questions about COVID-19, the DHEC Care Line is here to help. Call 1-855-472-3432. Staff are answering calls from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
No additional precautions are recommended for the public at this time, beyond the simple daily precautions that everyone should always take to stop the spread of illness, including getting the flu vaccine, washing your hands, covering your cough, and appropriately disposing tissues and other items contaminated with respiratory droplets. Individuals with signs of illness should stay home. In line with CDC guidance, the department does not recommend closing schools or canceling public events at this time. We would recommend that you review your emergency operations plan and continuity of operations to be sure that the information is current.
This guidance is based on what is currently known about the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We will update this guidance as needed and as additional information becomes available. This document is intended to be statewide guidance to help both businesses and employers make informed decisions.
In addition to checking DHEC's website, please check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website periodically for updated interim guidance from the CDC.
As we learn more, we will continue to update our main COVID-19 webpage and our Outreach Materials page. We have also posted COVID-19 information related to water management and retail food establishments.
