Today

The Darlington County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Training Room of the DCSD Administration Building, located at 120 E. Smith Avenue, Darlington. The Darlington County Board of Education regularly meets on the second Monday of each month. Additional meetings may be called for worksessions and information sessions. City of Darlington Tree Board has been RESCHEDULED for 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, and September 30; 10 a.m. Friday, December 6; and on an as-needed basis at the City Administration Building, 410 Pearl St.

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program will offer FREE Nutrition Classes to adults younger than 50 at the Darlington Library, 204 N. Main St., at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays: May 14, May 21 (Meet at Mozingo Building, 300 Russell St.), June 4, and June 11. Space is limited. Info: 843-398-4940.

Friday

Central Baptist Church presents Women of GRACE Conference with Maria Owens as guest speaker on May 17-18. She will be talking about blooming where we are planted. Lindsay Barringer will be joining Ms. Owens to lead us in our time of music. Doors open Friday night at 6 p.m. with event kicking off at 7 p.m. at the church, 512 Spring St. Saturday morning begins with breakfast at 8:30 and the day's program kicks off at 9a. Lunch will be served immediately following the completion of our program. Cost is $15 and includes the conference, breakfast, and lunch. Darlington Presbyterian Church will host college-age students on Friday, May 17, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Purple Fish Coffee Company, 110 W. Hampton St., for free food, fellowship, praise, and worship. After this kickoff event on the 17th, Darlington Presbyterian Church will hold a summer Bible study for college-age students (young adults who are college-age, whether they are in college or not) each Sunday night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at The Purple Fish Coffee Company from May 19 through August. The Darlington Library is excited to announce its first Comic Con from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday May 18 at the library, 204 N. Main St. This event is free and open to the public. Vendors, local artist, kids & teen cosplay contests, bake sales, free kids crafts and activities, and special guest appearances! Call 843-398-4940 for more information.

Join us on Saturday, May 18, from 3:00pm-6:30pm at Dargan Farms, 1301 S. Charleston Road, for the Pee Dee Land Trust Family Picnic as we celebrate the connection between the land in the Pee Dee Watershed and its people. Attendees of all ages will enjoy live music, delicious food, cold beverages, visiting with farm animals, hayrides, games and sweet treats from the ice cream truck. Strawberries will also be available to purchase (pick your own or already freshly picked). Tickets must be purchased in advance. $15 adult PDLT members, $25 adult non-members, $10 ages 6-18 and under 6 are free. The City of Darlington will dedicate the Our Pat Building in memory of Chief James C. (Jim) Stone at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at the property on Cashua Street.

City and County offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27.

The South Carolina 4-H Sporting Clays Tournament will be held on May 31 at the National Wildlife Turkey Federation Palmetto Shooting Complex in Edgefield. Funds raised are used to provide opportunities for South Carolina youth to participate in premier national 4-H events including National 4-H Congress and National 4-H Conference as well as our educational scholarships. Topics include leadership, science, and healthy lifestyles plus swimming, canoeing, high adventure elements, nature hikes, team sports, shooting sports, games, skits, campfires, dance, and talent show. A limited number of scholarships for first-time campers who meet financial need requirements are available.
